Awards & Recognition

Achieving Success in Scouts

Scouting can be very rewarding. But that depends on how much you put into your time in Scouts. There are other rewards in Scouts besides the badges and challenge awards which you can work towards.

At Topcliffe Scouts we have occasional awards / certificates relating to Summer Camps, a specific competition (i.e cooking competition) or a special achievement that is recognised by the Scout movement. Scouting can also be personally rewarding as well in terms of good behaviour, conquering any fears and taking on new challenges.

Trophy for the Patrol of the Year

Specifically for Scouts, we have our main annual awards that are for 'Scout of the Year' and 'Patrol of the Year'. Each year, from September to July, the Scouts compete individually and in their patrols to be crowned Scout or Patrol of the Year.

Every week, points are scored for a uniform inspection, commitment to Scouts, and any badges or challenge awards completed. The points are then totalled up for each award.

Remember: The Scout & Patrol awards only exist to bring in an element of competition between Scouts & Patrols in our Troop and to keep good standards up in our Troop. There should never be any bad feelings felt or any disharmony between other Scouts at anytime.

At the end of the day we are all one Troop, and all part of a worldwide organisation and both awards should always be treated as good fun and something to challenge our Scouts.
