Ripon & District
2014 has been a landmark year for 1st Topcliffe Scout Group and for our neighbouring Scout Groups. Following Executive Committee and District meetings earlier this year, it was unanimously decided that the Vale of Mowbray District be permanently disbanded and all 4 of its Scout groups be transferred and amalgamated (joined) with a new District.
At the final V.of.M District Exec. meeting in February which was attended by the Leaders and Supporters of all four groups, 1st Topcliffe Leaders voted that we should transfer to the adjoining Ripon District. The other groups of Thirsk, Sowerby and eventually Hillside also elected to join Ripon District and a new beginning for Scouting in our local area.

2014 - A new beginning
So after 70 long years, the Vale Of Mowbray District was no longer an active Scouting District. But although being closed, the Vale of Mowbray will be remembered for many years to come.
The Topcliffe Scouting Adventure will continue in our new District, which is in a stronger position with a full Executive Committee, 5 existing Scout groups, a District Explorer Unit and a District Active Support Unit.
We hope that by joining Ripon District, there will be plenty of new opportunities to take part in communal activities, events and camps with the other groups. As Scouting becomes more modern, it is important to connect with other Scouts groups from time to time, to share ideas and experiences.

How Ripon District broke the news
Welcome 4 Extra Groups
The long standing Vale of Mowbray Scout District to the north of us has just had their final AGM and are disbanding because of difficulties in finding new District personnel to manage the District. The County Commissioner asked the existing four Groups which adjacent District they would like to be part of and all of them have chosen Ripon & District. We 'welcome', with open arms, the Scout Groups of 1st Topcliffe, 1st Sowerby, 1st Thirsk and Hillside - their joining our District will make our Scout Group numbers raise from FIVE to NINE! |
